Raymond, more commonly known as “Musso” is the other half of the Clyde Orchards partnership. Musso has also spent most of his life on the orchard only leaving briefly in the 1980’s to complete a Diploma in Horticulture at Lincoln University, followed by the mandatory couple of years travelling in the UK and Europe. Musso also returned to the orchard to work with his father PG and brother Kevin, during the economic downturn of the 1980’s. Like Kevin, Musso also lives very close to the original orchard homestead, sharing a home with his wife Debbie, overlooking the Clutha River.
PG passed away in 2013, while his inherent knowledge of fruitgrowing is sadly missed by all the fruitgrowing community and his family, his legacy lives on in the work that Kevin and Musso do on the orchards.
Musso spends most of his time in the field overseeing the production side of the business, which has become much more sophisticated and diverse over the years, especially as they now have blocks spread over a 50km radius from the packhouse.
With the construction of our 6 .5 ha’s of Cravo cherry sheds and the recent plantings of new and earlier Flatto peaches Musso is excited about the future of the orchards.
Musso has been a director of both the Earnscleugh and Long Gully Irrigation Company’s and has had a long involvement with many sports clubs in the region. He has a member and held various roles in the Clyde Earnscleugh Rugby Club and is presently Vice President of the Dunstan Bowling Club.
When not working under the trees Musso can be found on the local ski fields, mountain biking in the hills surrounding the orchards or playing lawn bowls. Musso is passionate about growing the best fruit in the world and loves the fact that he gets to do so in such a wonderful location.
